Hilbert 'Bert' Junior Boger

ROCKWELL - Mr. Hilbert "Bert" Junior Boger, 86, of Rockwell, passed away on Sunday, Aug. 31, 2014, at Novant Health Rowan Medical Center, Salisbury.

Bert was born on July 15, 1928, in Rowan County, the son of the late Dallas M. Boger and Ida Flora Corl Boger.

Bert had attended Parks School and was a 1947 graduate of China Grove High School. He also had attended Catawba College.

He was a veteran of the U.S. Army serving during the Korean War in the Corps of Engineers as a Combat Construction Specialist from 1950 to 1952. He was awarded the Korean Service Medal with one Bronze Star.

Bert was a member of Rock Grove United Methodist Church for more than 50 years and was the coordinator of "Our Gang of Senior Citizens" for several years at Rock Grove UMC.

In addition to his parents, Bert was preceded in death by an infant daughter; and a sister, Zedith Basinger.

Survivors include wife "Martha" Hope Nail Boger, who he married on Jan. 17, 1954; sons Randy Boger and wife Karen of Rockwell, Scott Boger and wife Teresa of Richmond, Va.; daughter Debbie Boger Hartley and husband Mark of Granite Quarry; brother Bill Boger and wife Doris of Rockwell; grandchildren Clay Boger and wife Sarah, Jake Boger, Stephan and Kyle Hartley.

Visitation: 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 2 at Powles Funeral Home, Rockwell; and the remainder of the time, the family will be at the residence.

Funeral Service: 11 a.m. Wednesday, Sept. 3 Rock Grove United Methodist Church, Salisbury, conducted by Rev. Randy Lucas, pastor. Bert will lie in state in the church 30 minutes prior to the Funeral Service.

Interment will follow in the church cemetery with Military Graveside Rites conducted by The Rowan County Honor Guard and the NC National Guard.

Memorials: In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Rock Grove United Methodist Church, 1110 Shuping Mill Road, Salisbury, NC 28146.
