SALISBURY - James "Jim" Burton Beaver, 75, of Salisbury, passed away Thursday, July 18, 2013, at Glenn Kiser Hospice House.
He was born May 30, 1938, in Rowan County to the late Virginia Shuping Beaver and Willie Burton Beaver. He graduated from Boyden High School in 1956 and was a veteran of the U.S. Army serving from April 1961 thru June 1967.
Jim was employed by Winn-Dixie for 25 years before retiring in 2000. He was the produce manager. Jim was a member of First Baptist Church and a member of the Travelers Sunday School Class.
Jim and Linda enjoyed traveling after his retirement. They visited Montana, Cape Cod, Martha's Vineyard and Niagara Falls. He loved to listen to gospel music and was especially fond of The Gaithers.
Those left to cherish his memory include his wife, Linda Curlee Beaver; daughter Teresa Beaver of Mocksville; brother Gene (Cathy) Beaver of Greensboro; nephew Adam (Megan) of Greensboro; stepson Stephen R. (Amy) Collins of China Grove; stepdaughter Melissa (Buddy) Plummer of Monroe; step-grandchildren Ethan, Alison Collins, Cailyn, Janna and Luke Plummer.
Visitation: Visitation will be held at First Baptist Church from 1-2:30 p.m. Sunday, July 21 the downstairs fellowship hall.
Service: Graveside service will be held at Rowan Memorial Park at 3 p.m. Sunday with Dr. Kenneth Lance officiating.
Memorials: May be made to First Baptist Church, Building Fund, 223 N. Fulton St., Salisbury, NC 28144; and Rowan Hospice and Palliative Care, 1229 Statesville Blvd., Salisbury, NC 28144.
A special "Thank You" to all the caring, compassionate staff who cared for Jim at the Hospice house, especially Cindy Leonard, PA and Chaplin Fletcher.
