James R. Parker

SALISBURY - James R. Parker, age 80, of Reamer Circle, passed early Tuesday morning, April 23, 2013, at Hefner VA Medical Center Hospice.

Born Nov. 3, 1932, in Camden, S.C., he was a son of the late Anna Bell Cook. He was educated in the schools of New Rochelle, N.Y., having graduated from New Rochelle High School. He attended college in Kansas and was certified as a dietician in New York.

He was a veteran of the United States Air Force, having served during the Korean Conflict. He later was employed with the United States Postal Service and retired after 30 years.

"Jim" was a sports enthusiast and played softball, football, basketball, tennis, golf and ran track. He enjoyed attending sporting events and loved to travel. He had a passion for cooking and baking cakes and enjoyed preparing meals for family, especially during holidays.

He leaves to cherish fond and loving memories his wife of 52 years, Elaine Reid Parker of the home; daughter Pamela Parker (Ivory) White of the home; son Greg Parker of Salisbury; grandsons raised in the home, T.T. Parker and Termario (Ashley) Parker, both of Gold Hill; other grandchildren, Taylor Krider, Malachi Parker, Evonna Parker and Iyonna Parker; five great-grandchildren; sisters-in-law Mozella Butler and Alberta Parker.

Graveside Service: Monday, April 29 at 10 a.m. at the Salisbury National Cemetery, Statesville Boulevard location.
