Jerry Lee Williams

FRESNO, Calif. - Jerry Lee Williams, 70 of Fresno, Calif., passed away on Saturday, Nov. 16, 2013.

He was born to Cletus Leroy Williams and Elaine Rogers Williams on Aug. 23, 1943, in Salisbury. Jerry graduated from Castro Valley High School in California in 1961. Jerry served his country in the United States Army from 1964-1967. He was a true patriot and boasted often that he was proud to be an American having served during the time of the Vietnam War. He was stationed in Germany and patrolled the Berlin Wall.

Jerry worked for Bell South in North Carolina for many years. He was excited to volunteer his time as a fire chief for the local fire department. On the side, Jerry had a passion for farming. He often spoke about the different crops he loved raising and how much he enjoyed driving his tractor to harvest hay. Later, he became a member of the United States National Guard serving in the reserves. After he returned to California in 1990, he worked for Cal Trans, TCI/Comcast, Nationwide Boiler and lastly for AT&T in construction.

Above all, Jerry was a Christian. He was a content man satisfied with knowing Jesus Christ as his Lord and Savior. He was nicknamed "the Oak Tree" as he would often be found in the background, supporting the work of others. He loved fishing, hunting, shopping at the local farmer's market and BBQ. He had a wonderful sense of humor which kept people guessing whether he was kidding them or not. He could talk to anyone. Nothing touched his heart more than becoming a grandfather. He was so overjoyed to ride with Nathan on his scooter. He will be missed.

Jerry is survived by his daughter, Kim Williams LaFavre, of Indian Hills; his wife, Rachel Williams; his stepdaughter, Elizabeth Scholl; his stepsons, Douglas Slaton and Bryon Scholl; and his grandson, Nathan Scholl of Fresno, Calif.
