John Nettles Sr.

UNION, S.C. - John E. Nettles, Sr., 82, of Union, SC and formerly of Rock Hill, died Wednesday, Oct. 23, 2013.

A graduate of Wake Forest University, he was a U.S. Navy veteran having served in the Korean Conflict; a member of Grace Lutheran Church and the Senior Group there; a Boy Scout Troop Leader for over 20 years; and a member of the Silver Fox Club of the YMCA. He was also a member of Sons of the American Revolution and Sons of the Confederacy.

He is survived by his wife of 38 years, Joy Pierce Nettles; two daughters, Laury Anne Wilson and husband Lloyd, Catherine Casey and husband Trampis; a son, John E. Nettles Jr. and wife Edie; five grandchildren, Daniel, JoAnne, Jessie, David, Jill; five great-grandchildren, CJ, Bailey, Tylar Rose, Brooklyn, Lily; and a brother-in-law, Richard Pierce.

Service and Visitation: A funeral service will be held Saturday, Oct. 26 at 3 p.m. in Grace Lutheran Church with interment to follow in Rock Hill Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends from 2 p.m. until service at the church on Saturday.

Memorials: Donations may be made to the Grace Lutheran Church Boy Scouts or to the Youth Fund.
