Johnny M. Goforth

KANNAPOLIS - Mr. Johnny Michael Goforth, 69, passed away Saturday, Jan. 25, 2014, at Carolinas Medical Center-NorthEast in Concord.

Mr. Goforth was born Nov. 14, 1944, in Concord, a son of the late Melvin M. Goforth and Clara Lee Mauldin Goforth. He was a member of the boys choir in Kannapolis at 11 years old and participated in Rowan Choral Society and Piedmont Players.

He attended Brevard College and East Carolina University as a music major studying the guitar, mandolin and voice. Mr. Goforth was U.S. Army veteran of the Vietnam War. He worked as a security guard for First Union.

Mr. Goforth enjoyed animals, especially his dog, Toby, his bird, Jose, and the cats.

Mr. Goforth is survived by his wife, Sherry Smallwood Goforth; three sisters, Maxine Alexander, Darlene Wheatley and Linda Hamilton and husband Harold, all of Kannapolis; two nieces, Shelia Alexander, Leigh Linn and husband Robbie; two nephews, Jackie Alexander and Tim Wheatley; four grandnieces, Erica Alexander, Haley Alexander, Mackenzie Linn and Keria Linn.

Service: A funeral service will be held at 3 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 30 at Lady's Funeral Home Chapel. Rev. Leon Hawks will officiate. Interment follows at Carolina Memorial Park.

Visitation: The family will receive friends from 2 to 3 p.m. Thursday prior to the service at Lady's Funeral Home.

Memorials: May be made to Faithful Friends Animal Sanctuary, P.O. Box 3097, Salisbury, NC 28145; or the no-kill shelter of your choice.
