Joseph Samuel Myers

CLEVELAND - Mr. Joseph Samuel "Papa Joe" Myers, 58, of Cleveland, passed away Sunday, July 21, 2013 after a courageous six week battle with Acute Myeloid Leukemia.

Born May 9, 1955 in Salisbury, he was the son of the late Jane Amanda Ferebee and William Judson Myers.

Joe was a graduate of West Rowan High School, class of 1973. He then joined the U.S. Air Force and was stationed in Athens, Greece. After his military career he earned his degree in Machine Tool Technology and he was employed as a machinist at J.C. Steele and Son in Statesville, and also the owner/operator of Piedmont Classical Iron and the Ironfish trademark. Joe was a member of the Piedmont Emmaus Community and the Emanuel Emmaus Community in the Hickory area. Joe was an avid BMW motorcycle rider and loved flying. Joe made his solo flight on his 16th birthday. He was also an active member of Cornerstone Baptist Church in Cleveland.

Preceding him in death is his grandson, Oliver Ryan Ward.

Those left to cherish his memory are his wife, Bonnie Shook Myers; son, Conley Myers (Jennifer) of Mt. Ulla; daughter, Darcy Myers Ward (Michael) of Mt. Ulla; brother, A.W. Myers (Nancy) of Cleveland; sister, Martha Jane Deal (Oscho) China Grove; brother-in-law, Bobby Shook of Mansfield, Ohio; grandsons, Parkston and Evanston Myers and Brayden Ward; along with several nieces and nephews.

Visitation and Services: Visitation will be held from 6-8 p.m. Tuesday, July 23, 2013 at Summersett Funeral Home. Funeral service will be held 10 a.m. Wednesday, July 24, 2013 at Cornerstone Baptist Church with Rev. Josh Grizzle and Rev. Mack Jarvis III officiating. Burial with military rights will follow at 1 p.m. at the U.S. National Cemetery, Statesville Blvd. location.
