Landon 'Haynes' Sims

SPENCER - Mr. Landon "Haynes" Sims, 83, of Spencer, passed away Tuesday, May 21, 2013, at Novant Health Rowan Medical Center after a period of declining health.

Born Feb. 13, 1930, in Bristol, Va., to the late Beatrice Bunn Sims and Clarence Haywood Sims, he was educated at Spencer High School. He served in the U.S. Army.

Mr. Sims was the previous owner of Sims Service and Distributing Company and Sims Marine. He was a member of Spencer Jaycees, Spencer Moose Lodge, Spencer Volunteer Fire Dept., and served as an Auxiliary Police Officer.

Preceding him in death was a son, Richard Sims.

Surviving are his wife of 63 years, Edith Sims; daughters, Patricia Frick and husband Mike, Crystal Threadgill and husband George; and daughter-in-law Carol Sims Bean. Also surviving are his brother, Bruce Sims; sister Barbara Wellman; seven grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

Visitation: The family will receive friends from 1-2:30 p.m. Friday (May 24) at Summersett Funeral Home.

Service: A graveside funeral service will be held at 3 p.m. Friday (May 24) at Rowan Memorial Park, conducted by Rev. Don Mason. Military honors will be conducted by the Rowan County Veterans Honor Guard.

The family would like to thank the staff at Autumn Care for their loving care during his stay.
