MILACA, Minn. - Thom Bevier, 62, passed away at his home in Milaca on 22 July 2013, after battling liver cancer.
He is survived by his bride, Jill Kujawa-Bevier; sons Shayne (Dawn) and Brian; daughter Heather; grandchildren Ethan and Bella; and sister Jackie.
Thom served in the U.S. Army Special Forces from 1971 to 1993 serving multiple tours in Southeast Asia, Europe and Central America, retiring with the rank of Chief Warrant Officer.
After retiring from the Army, Thom attended North Carolina State University, earning a Bachelor of Science degree in Forestry Management in 1997. He taught sciences at East Rowan High School, Salisbury, 1999-2007, inspiring students with his "real life" approach to science. He was named Teacher of the Year in 2004.
In 2008, Thom was engaged by USAID to perform rural development work in Iraq and Afghanistan. In 2012 he was impacted by a terrorist bomb, sustaining injuries and triggering liver cancer.
Thom was interred with full military honors on 16 August 2013 at Snelling National Cemetery in Minneapolis/St. Paul, Minn.
His memory is cherished by all whose lives he touched as a soldier, teacher, friend.
