Tommy Gene Anderson

KANNAPOLIS - Tommy Gene Anderson, 71, of Kannapolis, died Tuesday, May 8, 2012, at Carolinas Medical Center-NorthEast in Concord after a period of declining health.

Tommy was born Aug. 3, 1940, in Cabarrus County, a son of the late J.T. and Ruby Bracken Anderson. He was a lifelong area resident and graduated from A.L. Brown High School in 1959.

Tommy was a veteran of the U.S. Army and retired from the Army Reserve. He worked for Cannon Mills Co. for 25 years and then worked as a corrections officer for Piedmont Correctional Facility until he retired in 2003.

Tommy was a member of Genesis Baptist Church. He loved his church and his family and enjoyed fishing. He will be deeply missed.

He is survived by his wife of 25 years, Faye Hollar Anderson of the family home; his daughters, Tonya Anderson Burris of Kannapolis and Tiffany Anderson Esquer (husband Michael) of China Grove; his stepson, Tommy Martin of China Grove; step-daughter Wendy Miranda of Birmingham, Ala.; his grandchildren, Leslie, Kristen and Brooke Burris, Jake and Jordan Martin and Collin Esquer; and great-grandson Jaycee Snow. He is also survived by his brother, Wayne Anderson (Jean) of China Grove.

Service/Visitation: His funeral service will be at 2:30 p.m. Saturday, May 12 at Genesis Baptist Church, with Rev. Gene Edwards officiating. Burial will follow at Carolina Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 1 to 2:30 p.m. at the church on Saturday, at other times they will be at the family residence.
