Walter 'Steve' Hammonds

CONCORD - Mr. Walter "Steve" Stephen Hammonds, 51, went home to live with his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, Tuesday, April 30, 2013, at Carolinas Medical Center-NorthEast.

Steve was born Nov. 29, 1961, in Durham, a son of Dr. Robert E. Hammonds and the late Barbara Cox Hammonds. Steve graduated from Northwest Cabarrus High School in 1980 and Wingate University in 1992.

He served in the U.S. Navy and was stationed in Okinawa, Japan. Steve worked as a safety coordinator for Corning.

In addition to his father, Steve is survived by his wife of 23 years, Debbie Moss Hammonds; son Isaac Moss Hammonds of the home; two brothers, Robert "Bob" Hammonds Jr. and wife Cathy of Kannapolis and Scott Hammonds and wife Sara of Concord.

Service: A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, May 4 at the First Baptist Church in Concord. Rev. Jim Pittman and Rev. Tom Anderson will officiate. Interment will follow at Carolina Memorial Park in Kannapolis.

Visitation: The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m., Friday, May 3 at Lady's Funeral Home.
