SPENCER - Willa Ellen "Mother" Callahan, 95, of Spencer, passed away Monday, Aug. 18, 2014, at The Laurels of Salisbury.
Born Jan. 8, 1919, in Albemarle, she was the daughter of the late Henry Baker and Nettie Stewart Baker. She was educated in Albemarle schools and graduated from Albemarle High School.
Mrs. Callahan was employed with Laguna Sportswear before retiring.
She was of the Presbyterian faith and a member of Hudson-Miller-Tatum VFW Post 3006 Ladies Auxiliary.
She was preceded in death by her husband, John Joseph Callahan; her siblings, Marshall Baker, Bessie Davis, Lula Baker, Chester Baker and Cletus Baker.
Those left to cherish her memory are her children, Cecilia Trexler of Spencer, Edward N. Bartlett and wife Paula of Boston, Mass., Sylvia McIntyre and husband Steve of Little River, S.C., Richard Callahan and wife Sandra of Salisbury; grandchildren David K. Trexler and wife Gwynn, Ellen Trexler Thomas and husband Robert, James Edward Trexler Jr., Jonathan D. Callahan and Britney N. Callahan; great-grandchildren Rob Bergeron, Chris "CJ" Mowery, Ryan D. Trexler and Sara Troutman and husband Chris; five great-great-grandchildren; and nephews James "Jimmy" Robert Davis and Gary Sells.
Service: A graveside service will be conducted by the family at 10 a.m. Wednesday (Aug. 20) in the Chapel in the Pines at Rowan Memorial Park
