William 'Bill' Edmiston

MT. ULLA - William "Bill" Johnston Edmiston, Sr., 85, of Mt. Ulla, passed away on Sunday, Jan. 27, 2013, at Lake Norman Regional Medical Center.

He was born April 26, 1927, and raised in Rowan County on the land that he loved to the late Robert S. & Ethel Johnston Edmiston.

Bill and his family operated R. S. Edmiston & Sons Dairy. He was a 1945 graduate of Mt. Ulla High School. He served his country in the U. S. Army in World War II. Bill was a lifelong member of Prospect Presbyterian Church, where he served as a deacon, elder and Sunday school superintendent. In his role as Sunday school superintendent, he will lovingly be remembered as "Mr. Bill" who welcomed the children on Sunday mornings. He was a member of the Rowan County Holstein Club and a former member of the Mooresville Rotary Club.

He was also preceded in death by brothers, John V. Edmiston, Robert Samuel Edmiston, Jr., J. Allen Edmiston, Henry C. Edmiston and Richard A. Edmiston.

He is survived by his wife, Virginia Hart Edmiston; daughter, Carol E. Stewart of La Grange, Ga. and her children, Emily, Grant and Rob; son, Dr. W. John Edmiston, Jr. and his wife, Jane of Mooresville and their children, David & Leah Duquette, Carly, Jack and Ian; daughter, Jeanne E. Martin and husband, Jay of Washington, NC and their children, Graham, James, Win and Sam; sister, Jane E. Miller of Colfax.

Visitation and Services: A memorial service will be held on Tuesday, Jan. 29, 2013 at 11 a.m. at Prospect Presbyterian Church with Rev. Joanne Hull, Rev. Jay Martin and Rev. Dr. Jan Edmiston officiating. Visitation will follow the service in the church parlor.

Memorials: In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Prospect Presbyterian Church, Hart Scholarship Fund, 9425 W. NC 152 Hwy., Mooresville, NC 28115.

A special word of thanks to Dr. Aubrey Calhoun, his colleagues and nurse, Ann Howard RN for their years of special care.
