William 'Roy' Creamer

MOORESVILLE - William Roy Creamer, 92, of Salisbury, died peacefully Sunday, July 28, 2013, surrounded by his loving family at Trinity Oaks Retirement Community.

He was born Jan. 23, 1921, in Anderson County, S.C., to the late Ernest C. and Carol E. Axman Creamer. Roy was a 1938 graduate of Boys' High School in Anderson, S.C., and attended Anderson College. He was a World War II veteran serving in the 63rd Infantry of 255th Regent of Headquarters and Headquarters Company. Roy was staff sergeant serving from October 1942 to December 1945.

Roy was employed with Duke Power Company for 45 years where he began his career in Anderson, S.C., in the Appliance Service Department and progressed through the commercial marketing and sales area in Anderson Greenville region. In 1959 he was promoted to Mooresville as the Branch Manager, where he was instrumental in the acquisition of land and development of Lake Norman. He retired in 1984 as Mooresville/Lake Norman area manager. He continued service to Duke Power as an active member of the Retiree Club, where he served as President.

Roy devoted a great deal of his life giving back to his community and just a few of these included, President of the Mooresville Chamber of Commerce, President of Kiwanis, President of Mooresville Junior High PTA, member of Anderson Mason Lodge, and Board Member of the Northwestern Bank and Piedmont Bank. He was also a longtime member of the Town of Mooresville Planning Board and the Lowrance Hospital Board of Directors. Roy was rewarded Chamber of Commerce Citizen of year in 1978 and recently received the Life Membership from his Masonic Lodge in Anderson.

He was an active member of Mooresville First Baptist Church, where he served as Sunday School Superintendent, Chairman of the deacons, member of the Adult Choir and Sr. Adult Choir and many other various (search and financial church) committees. Roy also served on the NC Baptist Foundation Board. He and his wife, Joan, are currently members of First Baptist Church of Salisbury.

He enjoyed gardening and at one time had three flourishing vegetable gardens.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Joe Creamer; son-in-law Rick Swann; sisters-in-law Mary Jones, Libby Creamer; brothers-in-law Howell Palmer, Oren Jones, Winburn Jones.

Roy is survived by his wife of 69 years, Joan Hudson Jones Creamer; daughters Janice Swann, Ann Benson and husband Fred, Karen Morgan and husband John, Meredith Palmer and husband Mike; sister Norma Palmer; sisters-in-law Sarah Jones, Sallie Creamer; grandchildren Andrew Ikall, Amy Ikall, Beau Benson, Elizabeth Heering and husband Tommy, Melissa Meadows and husband Tim, Matt Morgan and wife Anna, Brooke Morgan, Zach Palmer, Brooks Palmer, Tyler Palmer, Grace Palmer; great-granddaughter Emerson Morgan; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Service and Visitation: Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, July 31 at the Trinity Oaks Retirement Center special events room, Salisbury, with Rev. Dr. Kenneth Lance and Rev. Gene Bruce officiating. The family will receive friends immediately following the service. Burial will follow with full military honors at Glenwood Memorial Park.
