Bruno Richard Ghirardelli Obituary
1937 ~ 2014
Price, UT-It is with saddened hearts that we share the passing of our beloved husband, father, brother, grandfather, and friend on this Eleventh day of February 2014. Surrounded by his loved ones, he passed with grace, his vigilant battle ending now peacefully.
Richard was born on August 14, 1937 to Joseph and Rose Mazzarise Ghirardelli, in Helper Utah. He was a deeply religious man and was proud of his heritage. He traveled to Italy twice and had planned to return one more time. He attended Notre Dame School and enjoyed playing football for Carbon High School.
As a younger man, Richard worked in the mines, drove trucks, did construction work, and served in the reserves at Fort Ord, California. Later he transitioned to the retail business and was very successful for over forty years. As a well-respected businessman, Richard was very involved with community and business interests. He held numerous positions including: President of the Downtown Merchants Association, served as Chaplain, Trustee, Lecturing Knight and Exalted Ruler for the Price Elks Lodge, member of the Notre Dame Catholic Church, Kiawanis member, and held positions in Chamber of Commerce and Price City Planning and Zoning. He was also a mentor for many aspiring new business hopefuls. On August 3, 1963, he married his loving wife, Marlene (Davis) Ghirardelli, at St. Anthony's Catholic Church, in Helper Utah by Monsignor Dowling. Together they raised their three children, owned and operated two retail-clothing businesses, (Richard's Toggery) as well as several real estate investments. They later built their home together in Price. Richard was a long time member of the Carbon Country Club and loved golfing with many dear friends. He treasured the time he spent trapshooting and traveling for moto-cross with his son, and hunting with his children, grandchildren, brothers, and nephews. He enjoyed going to his Scofield Cabin where he loved to go fishing with his grandchildren. He loved people and he especially loved to tease everyone. The stories that he blessed his family with are both endless and priceless.
Richard is survived by his devoted wife of 50 years, Marlene (Molly) Ghirardelli; his daughters, Deborah Lynne (Neil) Breinholt, Victoria Marie Ghirardelli; and son, Richard Gregory (Andrea) Ghirardelli, all of Price. Grandchildren: Brook (Jeremy) Johansen, Antonio (Stephanie) Ghirardelli, Ember (West Hunsaker) and Richard Andrew Ghirardelli, Christie and Justin Krompel, and Andrea, Julia, and Aajah Breinholt. Five adorable great-grandchildren: Jaylynn, Brock, Giovanni, Julianna, and Grace Elizabeth; brother, Charles (Mary) Ghirardelli; sister, Norine (Ronald) Jewkes, very special brother and sister in laws, nieces and nephews, and many dear friends. Preceded in death by his parents, Joseph and Rose Ghirardelli; brothers, Rinaldo Ghirardelli (Italy), Joseph and Mary Louise Ghirardelli; young nephew, Joey Ghirardelli, and many dear friends.
