Charles Nibley "Chick" Cannon Obituary
1922 ~ 2013
Chick Cannon, 90, of Indian Wells, CA passed away February 21, 2013. He was born on May 7, 1922, in Salt Lake City, UT, the son of Edna Nibley Cannon and George M. Cannon. After graduating from East High, he attended the U. of Utah, and graduated from the U. of Michigan with a degree in Chemical Engineering. During his Army service in World War II, Chick met Margie Utah Moore in Jackson, MS where they later married. This union produced two daughters, Carolyn and Martha.
Chick worked most of his adult life for the Fluor Corp first as a Process Engineer, then moving into Sales. In 1978 Chick was selected as a Fellow in the Am Institute of Engineers. During his last years with Fluor he served as President of Fluor Engineering and Construction Group and Vice Chairman of the Fluor Corp. He retired in 1986.
After Margie's death in 2000 he relocated from his beach home in Corona del Mar, CA to the desert where he met and later married Alice Beckman. Alice passed away in 2010. Chick was currently married to Lois M.Healy of Indian Wells.
Chick's life was full of adventures traveling the globe in work and pleasure. Being an athlete, Chick skied until 80 (raced for the U. of Utah Ski Team), golfed until 90 and fly-fished in his beloved mountains of the West until his last days. His great joy was time spent at his childhood family cabin on the Weber River with his daughters and grandsons. Chick was a gifted negotiator and businessman, devoted family man and loyal friend. He led a remarkable, active life to the end and will be greatly missed.
Chick is survived by his wife, Lois, daughters Carolyn Cannon (Pug Ostling), and Martha Manning. Four grandsons: Morgan Cannon, and Scott, Eric, Brett Manning; sister: Teddy Stringham; sisters-in-law: Bette Jeanne Sage, Doris Bradley: many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers: George N. Cannon, Morris N. Cannon.
On Feb. 28, 2013 at Pacific View Memorial Park in Corona del Mar, CA. Chick was laid to rest at a private graveside service. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to your local Boys and Girls Club or .
