David A. Hughes, age 82, was reunited with his beloved wife, Marilyn, on February 26, 2014. Born on July 1, 1931 in Provo, Utah, to Ray King Hughes and Lucile Austin Hughes. Married to Marilyn Leone Burton Hughes on February 19, 1949 (later solemnized in the Salt Lake Temple). Dad grew up in Utah and California, graduating from West High School in Salt Lake City. He served in the Air National Guard during the Korean War from April 1951 to August 1952. He worked as a carpenter in the early years of his marriage, built his own home and a cabin with his in-laws. Looking for work with a steady paycheck, he started work as a letter carrier for the United States Postal Service in April 1957, retiring in July 1982 due to a disability. He loved to fish, hunt, and snowmobile with his wife, in-laws, and brother-in-law, Tom Burton. He made several trips to Alaska to go salmon fishing. He was a season ticket holder to the Salt Lake Golden Eagles for many years. He will always be remembered for his sense of humor and the many stories that he loved to write.
Survived by his children, Kathryn (Greg) White, Penny (Barb) Hughes, Becky (Michael) Davies, his brother Joseph Alma Hughes, 14 grandchildren, 29 great grandchildren, and 3 great great grandchildren. Preceded in death by his wife of 51 years, Marilyn, and a grandson, Timothy M Davies.
