David Franklin Bluck
April 6, 1944 ~ April 1, 2014
David F. Bluck passed away at his home in Townsend, Montana on April 1, 2014.
He was born April 6, 1944 in Salt Lake City, Utah to Willard F. Bluck and Mary Cleone Nemis Bluck, the youngest of 2 boys. David was educated in Salt Lake City schools and grew up loving the outdoors, fishing, hunting and scouting. Upon completion of high school David joined the
National Guard where he trained as a surveyor while on active duty and later became a lifelong member of the American Legion and Fraternal Order of Eagles. He returned to civilian life and was hired by the Salt Lake County Survey Department as a chainman where he worked for 30 years with increasing responsibilities, retiring at age 50 as a Party Chief.
In 1966, he married Bunny Meyerburg and that marriage lasted 11 years. They had no children. He later again married , and as a stepdad, helped raise her 2 sons. This marriage also lasted 11 years. During this period David bought some property in the mountains east of Salt Lake and spent much of his free time camping with family and friends and using it as a base for fishing and hunting trips. He also enjoyed motorcycling, snowmobiling and boating. After retiring from the County, he started a second career as a mechanic, welder and fabricator and worked with his friend Jerry (Pard) Martin and his family.
In 2004, following extensive heart surgery, he moved to Montana with his dog Rosie to recover and to enjoy Montana with his brother and sister-in-law Bill and Kate, who had lived there for 15 years. He quickly fell in love with Townsend MT and bought a home there which he lovingly improved on extensively. Over the next 10 years David spent much time with family and old and new friends hunting, fishing, boating, mule and ATV riding with his Labrador retriever Misty. His favorite places were the in the Elkhorn Mountains and on Canyon Ferry Reservoir.
David is preceded in death by his parents Willard and Cleone and niece Traci M. Bluck Tomte. He is survived by his Aunt Margaret Martin of Denver Colorado, his brother Bill and his wife Kate of Helena, Montana, nephews Gregory and Keith Bluck of Midvale and Ogden, Utah and grand niece and nephew Allison and Alex Bluck of West Valley City, Utah.
David has been cremated and had requested some of his ashes be spread at Canyon Ferry. At his request, no memorial service will be held in Montana. Later this year his ashes will be inurned at the family plot in the Salt Lake City cemetery.
