David was born to James Theodore and Cornelia Burdick Johnson on January 23, 1929 in Salt Lake City. He passed away on mother's day May 12, 2013.
Dad attended East high school and spent his summers as a young man with his father on the sheep camp. Dad was very proud of his service in the United States Army. After the service Dad joined the Salt Lake City Police Department. He loved his job as a Police Officer and would speak of it often with anyone who would listen. He was a good Cop.
Dad married Shirley Harrison in 1956 and together they had two beautiful children. They later divorced but remained good friends until Shirley's passing where Dad was at her side. Dad married Ruth Barlow on June 24, 1959 in Evanston Wyoming. Theirs was a true love story. Together they raised four wonderful boys.
After his Police service Dad continued working for the people of Utah. He worked for the Community Action Program and later for the State of Utah as a job developer. After retirement dad enjoyed working part time as a marshal at the Mountain dell golf course.
Dad enjoyed many outdoor activities. He enjoyed fishing, camping, hunting, golfing and coaching his sons in football. Dad enjoyed Trapshooting and won many awards. He was happiest shooting with his brothers and sons.
Dad is survived by his wife Ruth, his beautiful daughter Cindy Urry (Gene) Sons David Jr., Chris (Christine), Brad, Clint (Robin) and Stuart. His sisters Phyllis Raymond (Ruben), Merele Larson, Erma Ehrler. His brothers Alden (Lois), Frank Johnson. 20 grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren.
Proceeded in death by his parents, brothers Dee, James Theo, his sister Dorothy Strasters, and his infant son Jason Daniel. The family would like to thank Dr. Gregory Dupont, the nurses at Jordan Valley Hospital and all the care givers at Avalon West Rehabilitation.
Funeral will be held on Monday May 20, 2013 at Utah Veterans Cemetery and Memorial Chapel at Noon. 17111 S. Camp Williams Rd. (Redwood Rd.) Bluffdale, Utah.
