Don J Gines was born in Woodland, Summit County, Utah, on December 8, 1925, the second of 12 children born to Rex and Thelma Gines. He was raised on a dairy farm and was baptized in the Provo River. Don was the student body president of South Summit High School, played football and took regional honors in track. Don married his high school sweetheart LaRee Thayne in 1945 while he was on a one week leave from the military before going oversees during World War II. As part of the Greatest Generation, he served his country in Italy, Austria, and North Africa.
Don and LaRee's marriage was later solemnized in the Logan LDS Temple, and they settled in Bountiful, where Don built their dream home. He was the father of four daughters: Linda Hedges, Cathy (Danne) Hughes, Deon Gines, and Terry (Wayne) Allred, and had 14 grandchildren, 25 great grandchildren and seven great great grandchildren.
Don attended electronics school and Utah State University. He worked at Hill Air Force base for 30 years and was section chief for many years until retirement.
