Ernest C. Psarras, prominent businessman and beloved husband, father and grandfather, passed away peacefully Dec. 9, 2012 in the presence of family.
Born May 21, 1925, in Salt Lake City, to Gus and Maxine Psarras, he graduated from East High School and the University of Utah. Served in the United States Navy in World War II. He earned a Masters degree in Business Administration from the University of California at Berkeley.
While living in the Bay Area, he met and courted Angela Mourgos. They were married in San Francisco in 1951, and later moved to Salt Lake City, where he enjoyed a prosperous career in accounting and financial management. He was managing partner of a successful accounting firm and later founded Professional Manivest Inc., and Professional Sports Advisors, which served many prominent professional athletes as clients.
He was an avid golfer and member of Willow Creek Country Club and the Salt Lake Country Club. A peerless master of the art of gin rummy, and a longtime booster of University of Utah sports.
He is survived by his wife; sons Con (Anne), Dan (Karen) and Tony (Mary) Psarras; sister, Jenny Margaretis; grandchildren Katherine (Michael) Stinson, Timothy and Adrianne Psarras, and many nieces and nephews. Preceded in death by parents, brother, Nick Psarras, and sister, Angie Patrakis.
A viewing will be held Thursday, Dec. 13, at Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Cathedral, 279 South 300 West, at 10 a.m., with Prayer Service at 10:30 a.m. and Funeral Services at 11 a.m. Interment will follow at Mount Olivet Cemetery. Following the burial, friends and family are invited to an open house at the family home at 2436 Kentucky Avenue, until 6 p.m.
The family would like to thank the fine staff at Haven Hospice Services and Emeritus Center in Salt Lake City for their kind care and compassion. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests a donation to the Holy Trinity Church.
