Homer Carlos Davis, Jr. "Together Again"
1918 ~ 2013
West Valley City, UT-At 6:50 pm on July 22, 2013, Homer C. Davis, Jr. passed away surrounded by his family. He joined his beloved family members who had preceded him from this life into the next life in eternity. Homer was born, June 13, 1918 to Homer C. Davis, Sr., and Charlotte Sturman Davis in Pocatello, Idaho. He was the oldest of three children. He attended Pocatello High School. After leaving high school, he traveled on freight trains all across the USA. Then, worked for a road construction company in Wyoming, and then became self employed and hauled coal from Kemmerer WY to Star Valley WY where he met his first wife, Erma Walton. Homer and Erma had two children, Samuel Garry Davis and Joanne Charlotte Davis. In 1939 they moved to Pocatello, ID, and he went to work for the Union Pacific Railroad. He served in the United States Army in WWII as a tank driver and was discharged due to injury resulting in physical disability. He returned to Pocatello, ID and again worked for the railroad as a trainman. He was very proud of the 40 years that he worked for the Union Pacific Railroad in brakeman and conductor capacities. He married Pauline Rose McCalmon in 1972 and with her brought five children. Following his retirement at age 62, he worked as a school bus driver for three years, and during the summer months drove fire fighters to various locations. Homer joined the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in 1983, and was later sealed in the Idaho Falls Temple. He served in various Church positions; branch president, counselor in a bishopric and a high priest group leader. He and Pauline served an 18 month mission in the Genealogy Library in Salt Lake City.
Homer is survived by his children, Samuel Garry (Sharron), and Joanne Charlotte (Tom), Helen Stock (Riley), Jerry McCalmon (Linda), Patricia Holliday, Debra Stinger (Kent), and David McCalmon (Patty). Homer has 21 grandchildren, 49 great grandchildren, and 26 great-great grandchildren. Preceding him in his death were his parents, sister Eileen Brick, brother George Davis, wife Erma Davis, and wife Pauline Davis. We love you Dad with all our hearts and you will always be in our thoughts and prayers. We miss you very much! Until we are all together again, please smile down on us with rays of sunshine and kiss us goodnight with beautiful stars.
Funeral services will be held at the LDS Granger 14th Ward, 2101 West 3100 South, West Valley City, Utah on Friday, July 26, 2013. Viewing in the Relief Society Room will be from 10:00 to 11:00 am and funeral services will begin at 11:00 am. His interment will be at the Rest Lawn Memorial Gardens Cemetery in Pocatello, Idaho at 1:00 pm Saturday, July 27, 2013. Condolences may be sent to the family at www.memorialutah.com.
