Joe S. Martinez, 71, husband of Tina Martinez, passed away in Henderson, Nevada on March 30, 2014 in the arms of his sweetheart and surrounded by his family. He courageously fought a two year battle with cancer.
Joe was born November 24, 1942 in El Rito, New Mexico to Malaquis and Tiofila Alire Martinez and raised a very devout Catholic. He was a beloved husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, uncle and friend. The family moved to Lark Utah. He attended and graduated Bingham High School, in Copperton, Utah in 1961. Joe married Tina Dye March 7,1966 recently celebrating their 48 years together. Together they had four children - Chris, Candie, Angela and Troy. His employment was most accomplished. Joe worked for 33 years for Kenncott Copper during which time he became a Journeyman Wireman with 1BEW Local 354. During this same time he worked for 12 years as a Police Officer for West Jordan City, Utah as well as many other agencies. After he retired from Kenncott he worked for IBEW Local 357 in Las Vegas, Nevada retiring in 2004.
Joe is survived by his wife Tina along with their sons Chris and Troy (Sweet) and Daughter Angela (Troy) Ledbetter and Daughter-in-Law Kelly Martinez. He is also survived by his 10 grandchildren -Jessica, Brittany, Shelly, Michelle, Justin, Xavier, Vicky, Rafael, Nilo and TJ and his 13 great- grandchildren - Josh, Tyson, Breanna, Adian, Capone, Dominic, Lorenzo, Anthony, Jonnie, Tyler, Nicholas, Aundrea and Jaycob. Also surviving are his brothers Tony (Carol), Raymond, Ted (Ana), Jerry (Yvonne), Tommy (Lisa) and his sisters Elaine (LeRoy), Lucy (Andy) Debbie (Tony) and sisters-in-law Dian, Terri and Dori. He is predeceased by his parents, his brothers Gilbert, Paul and Rafeal and Daughter Candie and his granddaughter Jo Lynn (JoJo).
Mass will be celebrated on Friday, May 9, 2014 at 11:00 a.m. followed by a Celebration of Life with Lunch at St. Theresa's Church, 624 W. Lennox, Midvale, Utah 84047.
