Marie Louise Warnock Obituary
Dec. 21, 1927 ~ April 18, 2014
Louise was born December 21, 1927 to Florence and Nicholas Loumos in Massachusetts. Her life changed when her mother was diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis and her family moved to the milder climate of the San Francisco Bay Area. Louise attended San Mateo City College, then UCLA where she was an English major and on the newspaper staff of the Daily Bruin.
She met David Warnock on a blind date in San Francisco. They married in 1953. Louise was a potter, painter, poet and a musician. Even with two children she made time for creativity. David and Louise loved laughter and nature. Family outings involved dirt, trees, a tent, an outhouse and a sense of humor.
She taught in Hayward, CA and her ESL students learned songs in English as part of her curriculum. Louise and David moved to Utah in 1991 to enjoy the outdoor life and to be closer to family. In Salt Lake Louise played guitar and sang in skilled nursing facilities.
Louise died due to complications of pneumonia April 18, 2014 at the University Hospital. The family wants to thank those who provided care and made her last moments peaceful. She was preceded in death by her mother, father, step-mother, sister Joann, step-sister Effie and grandson Kevin. Louise is survived by her husband David, daughter Kathryn Lewis (Mel) and son David, all of Salt Lake City, and many grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Multiple Sclerosis Foundation, 1440 Foothill Blvd Suite 200, Salt Lake City, UT 84108. Private services have been held. In memory of Louise take time to laugh, play with clay, hug a tree and make some music.
