Dr. Mark Allan Laughlin, 59, of Litchfield, IL, formerly of Palo Alto, CA, died Tues., June 11, 2013 at 6:24 p.m. in Barnes Jewish Hospital in St. Louis.
He was born on Dec. 14, 1953 in Decatur, a son of Rev. William Harold & Meribah Jean (Wardall) Laughlin. He graduated from Watseka High School in 1972. He went on to obtain his Bachelor's Degree from
in Cambridge, MA & his Doctorate from Rush Medical School in Chicago. He then did his fellowship with Infectious Diseases at the University of Pennsylvania. He was a member of the American Medical Association and traveled the world doing drug studies for infectious diseases, working especially in the area of HIV. Over the years he was employed by Roche, Myriad & Schering Plough Pharmaceutical Companies. He married Ellen B. Szabo on April 10, 1979 in Harvard University Chapel in Cambridge, MA. They later divorced. In his leisure time, he loved to travel & work on construction projects.
He is survived by:three sons, Andrew (Courtney) Laughlin of Franklin, IN, James Laughlin of Bryn Mawr, PA,Stephen Laughlin of Merrimac, MA, His mother, Meribah Laughlin of Litchfield, two brothers, Dr. Larry (Jane) Laughlin, Bethesda, MD, Dr. Lonnie (Debbie) Laughlin of Litchfield, one sister, Linda (Robert) Brown of Cheyenne, WY.
He was preceded in death by his father.
A private family memorial service will be held at a later date.
In order to continue Mark's career dedicated to finding a cure for HIV/AIDS, the family suggests memorials to
