Melvin LeRoy Hardman, 80, passed away on December 1, 2012 in Sandy, Utah. Mel was born on February 26, 1932 in Riverton, Utah to LeRoy Isaac and Verna Swofford Hardman. He married Barbara Jean Boggs on September 4, 1954 in Riverton, Utah. Later solemnized in the Salt Lake Temple. Mel graduated from Jordan High School in 1950. He served in the US Army during the Korean Conflict. Mel worked at Kennecott as a Locomotive Engineer for 36 years, for the LDS Church, for the Jordan School District and owned and operated the Chocolate Cottage for 15 years. He was an active member of the LDS Church, serving in many capacities, including Bishop. Mel and his sweetheart Barbara served a mission at the Adult Detention Center in Salt Lake for 3 years. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, camping and spending time with his family and friends. Survived by his wife, Barbara, children, Scott Hardman, Tamara (Brian) Watkins and Brett (Delmy) Hardman; 8 grandchildren; 5 great grandchildren; siblings, Rose (Ronald) Burke, Debra (Lorin) Gardiner, Shirley Smith, Pat Wanlass, Seth McPhie and Michael McPhie. Preceded in death by his parents, siblings, George, Phyllis and Merrill. Funeral services will held at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, December 6, 2012 at the Crescent 3rd Ward, 949 East 10600 South. Friends may call from 6-8 p.m. on Wednesday evening at Goff Mortuary, 8090 S. State Street and 1 hour prior to the services, at the church. Interment, Larkin Sunset Gardens.
