Murray Breese Sweet Obituary
Murray Breese Sweet
June 7th, 1917 ~ Aug. 4, 2014
On the evening of August 4, 2014 Murray passed away of natural causes in his home in Eagle Mountain, surrounded by family. He was 97 years old.
Murray was born on June 7th, 1917 in Little Falls Herkimer, New York to Charles Sweet and Blanche Breese; the oldest of three boys. Murray's oldest memories are that of his father's dairy farm in Little Falls, and not many people reach his age and are able to remember snowshoeing at age six, where the scar on his forehead came from when he was hit by a boy on a bike his first year of school, or how the great depression affected his parents. He also remembered that he made $1.25 a week as his first wage and his first car was a 1929 Model A Ford Coach he bought for $35. One of his proudest moments was when he picketed for equal rights. But that's just how Murray was, and he shared these experiences with his grandkids and great-grandkids throughout his life. On April 1, 1940 Murray married Elizabeth "Betty" Wright. They had four children together: Donna, Murray Breese Jr., Frances and James.
In 1944 Murray was drafted into the United States Navy and served in Panama. He was honorably discharged from the military on April 23rd, 1946. Murray and Elizabeth divorced in 1962, but still a family man, Murray remained very active in raising not only his children, but also many of his grandchildren. After a visit to the Beehive State in 1990, Murray made the move to Copperton, Utah to be closer to family.
Murray was preceded in death by his parents, his brothers Paul and Don and three of his great-grandchildren, Cassiopeia and Brian Ackley and Timothy Williams. He is survived by his four children, 10 grandchildren, 18 great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren.
