Orval Max Matthews Obituary
1923 ~ 2013
Our beloved husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and friend, Orval Max Matthews passed away August 20, 2013, after a long and adventurous life.
He was born December 1, 1923 in Bennion, Utah to A Orval and Elvera B Matthews. He served his country during World War II in the US army. He fought with courage, strength and dignity during the battle of the bulge earning him two purple hearts. His greatest adventures, however, began after the war when he married Lillie Irene Baker, August 16, 1946 and raised five children. Max owned M & M plumbing. He loved the outdoors, his finest days were spent hunting mountain lions and bears in the high Uinta's or spending quality time with his many grand-children at his ranch in Duchesne. His strength and simple ways of life touched all that knew him and will be forever etched in our hearts.
He is survived by his daughters Nola M Shewmake, Marla M Heineken (Brent), Maxine Roush (Gary), Diane M Hardman (Verle) and daughter-in-law Sue Matthews, 25 grandchildren, 40 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his beloved wife Irene, his parents, his son Verl Matthews and his son-in-law Walter Shewmake.
Services will be held at Redwood Memorial Cemetery, 6500 S Redwood Rd. Viewing Friday night August 23, 2013 between 6:00 and 8:00 p.m. Funeral services Saturday morning August 24, 2013 at 9:00 a.m., viewing one hour prior to services.
