1928 - 2014
Early in the morning of March 17, Russell Anderson Cannon died peacefully at home. He was born on June 25, 1928 in Salt Lake City, UT to William Tenney and Geneve Anderson Cannon. He was the third of their four children. He attended schools in Utah and in Washington D.C. After attending BYU he left for a mission to Argentina. Upon his return he attended U.C.L.A and then USC where he received his law Degree. In 1954 he married Marilyn Creer in the Salt Lake Temple. They are the parents of three children, Scott Cannon of Draper, UT, Cathy Cannon of San Diego, CA, and Terry Lynn McAllister of Seattle, WA. Throughout his life, Russ was a faithful member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, something his parents instilled in him at a young age. Besides his full-time mission as a young elder, he served a mission in Chile with his wife, a mission on Temple Square, a Public Affairs mission, and several Stake missions. His many other Church callings include serving as a bishop, serving on several High Councils and as Stake executive secretary. He was also an ordinance worker in the Jordan River Temple. He loved the Lord and served willingly and unselfishly all the days of his life. He also recognized the importance of serving in the community. He served on a school board in California, as a member of the State Legislature in Utah and in several
s. He was the founder and charter president of the Draper Rotary club. He was active in the Sons of the Utah Pioneers and served as a chapter president and on the national board. Russell is preceded in death by his parents and two sisters, Helen Stitt and Sally Hacking. He is survived by wife, brother, William T Cannon and by his children and grandchildren, Travis McAllister and Torrie Cannon. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, March 22, at 11:00 a.m. at the South Mountain Stake Center 1911 Grey Fox Drive in Draper, UT (next to the Draper temple). There will be a viewing that morning from 9:30-10:45a.m. Interment will be at the Valley View Memorial Park at 4335 West, 4100 South, West Valley City, UT. Online condolences at
