Shirley C. Danielson, 82, slipped through the veil to a joyous reunion with her husband and family on June 7, 2013. Shirley was born July 16, 1930 to John Gilbert Mortensen and Irma Francis VanZweden. Shirley spent her school years in Illinois and graduated from Riverside - Brookfield High School.
She married her high school sweetheart, Ronald, on June 15, 1951. Ron graduated from Purdue University and they moved to Downey, CA. After Ron died in November 1953, Shirley took her infant son, David, and returned to Illinois. She attended the U of Chicago and became a 1st Grade Teacher. Shirley taught in Illinois for 3 years then moved to Ogden where she taught for 35 years. In 1996 she received the Golden Apple Award as Outstanding Teacher in Utah.
Shirley was a life-long member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and served in the Primary, Sunday School, Relief Society, MIA and music organizations. Shirley especially loved her Service Mission from 2001-2002 in the Jefferson 2nd Ward.
Shirley was a member of DUP (Camp Delight & Heritage), WEA, UEA, NEA, Alpha Delta Kappa, Delta Kappa Gamma, ACEI, IRA, Arts International, LeLivre, and Aglaia.
She is survived by her son, David (Sherry); grandchildren, David Jr. (Karen), Adrienne (Ben) Donner, Ruth Danielson (Wayne Burgess), Ronald II (Kristen); 11 great-grandchildren; 2 sisters, Joyce (Russell) Taylor, Myra Faye (Robert) Earl; and numerous cousins, nephews and nieces.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Ronald; her parents; her sister, Gail (Michael) Traasdahl and nephew Karl Traasdahl; plus many beloved cousins, aunts and uncles.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday, June 14, 2013 at Myers Ogden Mortuary, 845 Washington Blvd. A viewing will be held on Thursday, June 13th from 6 to 8 p.m. and Friday from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. Interment at the Ogden City Cemetery.
