Vernon, It was a joy and pleasure to know you during your last year on earth. I so enjoyed coming to see you. When I came in the door, you usually clapped. You always made me feel so welcome. I enjoyed your whistling and singing too. I am so glad I was able to get to know you and Nola Marie.

When I was young I remember how Grandpa would whistle whenever his bird clock would chime then he would turn to wink at me and I would join in trying to mimic his whistling. He would always be so happy and kind! I loved going to visit my grandparents; it was like visiting the most exciting place in the world for a child to go to. I would walk in and ask for a treat from Grandpa and he would sneak me a couple instead of one. Then we would sit on the coach together, eating our sweets, while he read the newspaper comics to me. I could always count on him to make me smile.
I miss how I won't be able to see your smile anymore, hear you say “Chom chota”, and listen to your stories. But one day I'll see you again and it will be alright until then. Love you Grandpa!

Vernon Was one of the sweetest guys I ever knew. I met him in 1942 when he came to visit our family along with my cousin, Boyd Chapman. He was a dear friend to our family and later a mailman to my mother in her "senior days." Nola Marie was also a friend and we had children of the same ages after we were married. I send my best to all the family and want you to know we loved your Husband, Dad, and grandpa. Sylvia Chapman Archibald

Dear Nola Marie and Family,
I read of Vernon's passing when I pulled up the obit. on the computer today. We're all getting along in years, so we never know who will be next. I have wonderful memories of you from the time we lived in Rose Park. After my Grant passed away 5 years ago, I remarried a year and a half ago to a very dear friend who had lost his wife. We,with our spouses, had great times together. Bob and I are very happy and doing well. We spend some time in my home in Taylorsville and at his home in California. I send my love and support to all of you at this time of loss.

Aunt Nola Marie and Family, Our thoughts and prayers are with you all. Its heart-breaking to lose a loved one, even if you do know they are now rejoicing with all the special people and family members that have left this earth before them. Uncle Vernon was a genuinely nice person and always seemed to be happy when I saw him. I never heard him say a bad word about anyone. Very Christ-like qualities. I miss the family parties, baseball games, horse shoes, movies and buffet lunches with the Hemingway Clan. I truly wish I had been there much more to take part in the fun. May God Bless You All with lasting and loving memories.

Daddy was the light of my life. I hated to see him suffering the last week, but I had 2 plus years with him by my side. Other sisters also helped take turns taking care of him. My daughter Heidi, my son Ammon & even my grandson took turns helping. It was not a thankless job. We loved every minute of it. His twinkle in his eyes made it all worth while. I know he is having a party with his family that went before him, and he will miss us too, but he has not seen them in years. He has a identical twin brother that he is most likely having a nice conversation with. Daddy said to me when his twin died that it was the hardest thing he ever had to go through. I understand completely now what he meant. I love you daddy. Don't let the bed bugs bite, may your body sleep tight until I see you again. ~Winona~ (first daughter, and third child)

They say I was my dad's favorite...but I think he made us all feel special at one time or another. He was kind, caring, loving, a good provider and he loved Mom. He wrote little poems on gifts for her, which gave a hint of what was inside. She complained about it, but mom always complains...I really think she liked it. Dad let me steer the car while sitting next to him, just around the neighborhood...he let me stay up late to watch Gunsmoke with him, and he got me Twinkies & ice cream cones. He gave me rides home from school in his Post Office Jeep, but mostly I remember his kind and caring ways. He was the peacemaker. I have a letter he wrote me, long ago, right before I left home at 18. In my rebellious ways, I didn't want his words then...but I cherish them know. Dad was an old softy with a sweet tooth. He was a gentle soul. This is the Dad that I remember. I love you Dad...and I know you're at peace.
Love, Wendy
