Barbara Leonhardt, beloved wife, mother and grandmother went to be with the Lord on April 10, 2014 after a short battle with cancer. She was born on March 4, 1943 in Hammond, Indiana to parents Joseph G. and Mary Anne Blackmun. She met her husband, Jack, at Indiana University and married on August 15, 1964. Barbara followed Jack into a 22-year USAF career, a 12-year career at USAA and then First Lady of Windcrest during Jack's 8 years as mayor. Her life was characterized by gourmet cooking, cookbooks and crafts. Friends considered her the Martha Stewart of Windcrest. Complementing gourmet dinners, she loved Victorian table settings with mother of pearl handled flatware; they traveled the country searching for pieces. In July 2013 they moved to the Army Residence Community (ARC). God blessed Barbara and Jack with two wonderful daughters. Jacqueline blessed her with two granddaughters, Aimee and Allie, and Joanne blessed her with two grandsons, Benjamin and Joseph. She was preceded to heaven by her parents and leaves behind her husband, two daughters and sons-in-law, four grandchildren, two sisters, and her dearest Windcrest friend, Inez Dunn. A memorial service and reception will be held at John Calvin Presbyterian Church, Windcrest, TX at 10:00 a.m. Wednesday, March 16 with Dr. Malcolm McQueen officiating. Barbara's burial follows at the Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery. In lieu of flowers please make memorial contributions to John Calvin Presbyterian Church for the Esther Young Scholarship Fund.
