Betty Jean Jannasch, age 85, passed away on Monday, June 9, 2014. Born to Frank and Lottie Wichita in Temple, TX, she played the violin and viola with the Temple High School orchestra and later sang with the Harmony Maids Octette at Temple Junior College. She shared her passion for music with her children and grandchildren and enjoyed listening to their performances of the piano, violin, and clarinet. Betty graduated from the University of Texas at Austin in 1950 and was awarded a Bachelor of Arts degree in Mathematics and remained an avid fan of the school, especially the band. A popular and beloved teacher, she taught for 26 years in the San Antonio Independent School District primarily as a fourth grade teacher at Arnold Elementary School. In retirement, Betty and her husband, Alvin, served lunch at the Fourth Street Inn, a ministry of the First Baptist Church of San Antonio where they were members for 60 years. She is preceded in death by her husband, Alvin August Jannasch and her brother, Frank Wichita. She is survived by her son, Robert Jannasch and wife, Shelley; daughter, Karen Kittrell and husband, Gary, grandchildren: Austin Kittrell and Collin Kittrell; sister, Allene Pearson; and many nieces and nephews. Visitation will be held on Monday, June 16th from 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm at Porter Loring on McCullough.
