NENTWICH
Our angel, mother, grandmother and friend, Carol Ann Cory Nentwich, went to be with the Lord on Monday, December 16, 2013. Carol was born on August 30, 1942 in San Antonio, Texas to Mildred and Nelson Cory, Jr. A lifelong San Antonio resident, Carol graduated from Alamo Heights High School in the class of 1960. She graduated from The University of Texas at Austin with a BA in English. She was Rush Chairman and President of Pi Beta Phi sorority, a Bluebonnet Belle, and Sweetheart of Sigma Nu.

Although her roles as a devoted mother and grandmother were always first and foremost, Carol was also a school teacher, patient representative for Christus Santa Rosa Health System, and Realtor. Her community memberships included the Junior League of San Antonio and the Battle of Flowers Association. She was an active member of Christ Episcopal Church for many years, and later in life, St. Luke's Episcopal Church.

Even though Carol had been treated for cancer since 1988, she did not lose the battle to the disease. She was accepting and hopeful, trusting in God, who gave her an indomitable spirit. She was truly an angel on Earth and will be greatly missed. She blessed anyone and everyone who ever encountered her, even if they met her for the briefest moment. God gave her the capacity to be selflessly and fully present to everyone, always putting others first. On handwritten Post-It notes in her home, Carol wrote: "I will walk again" and "I will dance." She is. Visitors always remarked at how courageously she handled life's hurdles. She ran her marathon with dignity and grace and has now crossed the finish line victoriously.

Gathered together to celebrate her life are her daughters and their husbands: Cory and Phil Bakke, Cindy and Jimmy Bartz, and Courtney and Scott Storment. She will also be greatly missed by her grandchildren: Brandt Bakke, West Bakke, Jas Bartz, Jade Bartz and Abbie Storment. Carol is also survived by her sister and brother-in-law, Joan and Tom Goade, her niece, Elizabeth, and husband, Tony Liles; her cousins, Lynne and Peter Hennessey and Martha and Clint Sayers; along with many more nieces, nephews and cousins.

A memorial service was held on Thursday, December 19th at St. Luke's Episcopal Church with The Reverends David Read, James P. Bartz, J. Douglas Storment and Laurence A. Hall officiating. Pallbearers were Brandt Peacock Bakke, Phillip Peacock Bakke, West Menefee Bakke, The Reverend James Perkins Bartz, Thomas Louis Goade, Peter John Hennessey III, Anthony William Liles, Clinton Parker Sayers, Scott Douglas Storment. Honorary pallbearers are: Don Beeler, Tommy Davies, Rhew Dooley, Mike Espinosa, Bruce Hendin, Charlie Hummel, Rodger Kuhl, Larry O'Neill, Tom Schulze, Fred Woodley and Charles (Chip) Wright.
The family expresses their heartfelt appreciation to Carol's physicians: Dr. Mark Thornton, Dr. Amy Lang, and Dr. Howard Wang. We are also immeasurably grateful to Carol's devoted caregivers: Erlinda Betancourt and Brenda Williams.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to: Alamo Heights School Foundation (7101 Broadway, San Antonio, TX 78209), Thad's (1316 3rd St., Suite B4, Santa Monica, CA 90401), ThriveWell Cancer Foundation (PO Box 29331, San Antonio, TX 78229).
