Charles Arthur Dawson, age 92, went to be with the Lord July 13, 2014. He was born in San Antonio, Texas on January 5, 1922 and resided in San Antonio, Texas. He was survived by his wife Joyce of 68 years, one daughter CindyDawsonGolly, 2 grandchildren; Kristi & husband Jerry Glaser, Jeff & wife Kristye Golly, 4 great grandchildren; Garrett Casteleyn, Kendall Glaser and Twins Jules & Jenna Golly. Sister Dorthey Koerber. Charles was a member of Oxford United Methodist Church, CPSE Retirees, Hermann Sons and a Life Member of the 36th Division. As a First Lieutenant in Communications, Charles joined the National Guard in 1940 and fought in WWII 1940-45. He served in the 141st Infantry Regiment, 36th Infantry Division and was sent to Africa, Italy, Germany, France and Austria. He also served in Campaign Battles: Southern France, Anzio, Rhineland, Ardennes-Alsace and Central Europe. While serving he received many metals, including the Bronze Star. After the war Charles worked for CPS Energy until he was recalled to the army reserves active duty in 1951. He was sent to Korea with the 5th Regimental Combat Team and honorably discharged in 1953. Charles continued his employment with CPS Energy as a lineman and then an Overhall Coordinator at the powerplant, where he was often known as 'Charles in Charge'. Charles retired from CPS Energy after 41 years and 2 months.
Visitation will be held from 6:00 - 8:00 PM at Mission Park Funeral Chapels North on Thursday, July 17, 2014. Chapel services will be held at 9:00 AM at Mission Park Funeral Chapels North on Friday, July 18, 2014 with interment to follow at Stockdale Cemetery in Stockdale, Texas.
