Charles Emmett Hughes, 67, passed away on the 5th of November, 2013 at Peterson Regional Medical Center in Kerrville, Texas. He was born on July 14th 1946 in Odessa, Texas to Rex and Opal Hughes. Charles grew up in San Antonio, Texas. He graduated from South San Antonio High School in San Antonio, TX in 1965. He joined the Army Reserves in 1965 and served for 6 years, of which 18 months were active service. He was discharged in 1971, achieving the rank of Sergeant.
He retired in 2008 after 37 years in telecommunications. He worked for Western Electric/South Western Bell/AT&T, Aztec, and 5 years at Walmart. Charles married Mary in 1967 in San Antonio, Texas. They were happily married for 46 years. Pop enjoyed hunting, fishing, working outdoors, family, grandchildren, and drinking beer. Charlie was an avid Dallas Cowboys, University of Texas Football, and Spurs fan, always playing the game with the team from his couch.
Charlie was preceded in death by his parents, Rex and Opal Hughes.
Charlie is survived by wife, Mary of Kerrville; son, Jerremy (Jennifer) Hughes of Kerrville; brother, Rex Jr. (Maria) Hughes of Odessa, Texas; sister, Barbara McBryde of San Antonio, Texas; and brother, Phillip B. (Rosalie) Hughes of San Antonio, Texas; his grandchildren, Kolten, Kyle, Heather, and CJ; and his numerous nieces and nephews and other relatives.
A memorial service will be held at Grimes Funeral Chapels, 728 Jefferson St., Kerrville, Texas at 1 pm, November 8th. A visitation will be held at Grimes Funeral Chapels from 6-8pm on November 7th. The celebration of Charlie's life will be held after the memorial service, at 277 Goat Creek Cutoff, Kerrville, Texas.
