Chris Cadena Jr. born February 26, 1925, to Chris and Guadalupe Cadena Sr. in Calaveras, TX went to be with our Lord October 30, 2013 at the age of 88. He is preceded in death by his parents; son Christopher R. Cadena III; brothers Raymond, and Dan Cadena; sister Lucy Mendoza and great-grandson Robert Dixon Jr. Chris served in the U.S. Navy during WWII on the U.S.S. ESSEX CV/CVA/CVS-9. While on military duty he received the following: Asiatic Pacific Area Campaign Medal (2 Stars), Philippines Liberation Medal (2 Stars), WWII Victory Medal and a Presidential Citation. He married his childhood sweetheart Mary Esther Cantu October 10, 1948, in Saspamco, TX. He faithfully served over 30 years at Ft. Sam Houston as a Food Service Supervisor. Chris was a member of the VFW. He is survived by his beloved wife of over 65 years, Mary Esther Cadena; daughters Cynthia McKenna (John) of Maryland, Cheryl A. Cadena Venesa Cadena; and son Eric Cadena; sisters Otilia Patlan, Antonia Rodriguez and Consuelo Ruiz; and grandchildren Dario Cavazos (Betsy), Mary Gilley (Ryan), Jessica Valdemar, Chelsea Cadena, Ashley Jones, Kohl Balmos; great-grandchildren Rylee, Averie, Raelyn and Quincy; numerous friends, Shipmates, nieces, nephews and cousins.
Service
Visitation will begin on Wednesday, November 6, 2013 from 5:00 PM to 9:00 PM with a Holy Rosary to be recited at 7:00 PM at the funeral home. A funeral procession will depart the funeral home at 9:30 AM on Thursday, November 7, 2013. A funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10:00 AM at Holy Name Catholic Church, 3814 Nash Blvd. Interment to follow at Ft. Sam Houston National Cemetery.
