Claracita "Cita" Kovar Obituary

"Cita" was born August 2, 1921, in La Salle County, TX, to Morris B. Burks and Lucille Jacobs Burks, the youngest of four children. She graduated from Cotulla H.S. and the University of Texas (1942).

She married 2nd Lt. W. J. "Joe" Kovar, a West Point graduate, on June 26, 1945, in Rosenberg, TX. Over the next 26 years, Army life would include 18 moves, with assignments in Germany, Thailand, Alaska, Kansas, Colorado, New York and Virginia. In 1971 Cita returned to San Antonio after the death of her beloved husband. A long-time member of University Presbyterian Church, she worked with the children's program and Ramparts, a program that provided services to senior citizens. She also served the church as Deacon.

Cita moved to St. Louis, MO, in 2009 to be near her daughter, Kathryn. She died Feb. 26, 2014, with family by her side. She is survived by her 3 children, Karen Alice Dilts (husband Larry) of Colby, KS, Joseph M. Kovar (wife Claudia) of Tulsa, OK, and Kathryn Ann Pisoni (husband Nicholas) of St. Louis, MO, five grandchildren, Kary Dilts, Jennifer Kovar, Joseph D. Kovar, William Pisoni and Richard Pisoni,11 nieces, a nephew, several cousins and numerous friends. She will be remembered for her service to God, her country and her family.

She will be interred at Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery. A memorial service is planned for 11:00 a.m. March 21, 2014, at University Presbyterian Church, San Antonio, TX. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Children's Center Scholarship fund at University Presbyterian Church.
