HOOTON
Claude Edgar Hooton, Jr.
December 2, 1931 -
May 21, 2013
Surrounded by five of his eight children and two of his seven grandchildren, our favorite story telling, cowboy hat toting Texan and "Harvard Man" tipped his hat for the last time in San Antonio, Texas. A '54 Harvard graduate, our dad served as a chairman for the "Citizens for Kennedy", served in Army intelligence, was in the President's box at John F. Kennedy's inaugural parade and ball, was a groomsman and pallbearer for Senator Edward M. Kennedy, was part of a Papal Audience with Pope Paul VI in the Pope's private office at Vatican City (that included Astronaut James Lovell), selected as "Man of the Year" for the City of Hope and even ran for the U.S. congressional seat for the 22nd District of Texas. Born in Houston, he is survived by Lucile and Brian Lynch, Claude and Michelle Hooton, III, Frank and Janette Hooton, Christian Hooton, Maxmilian Severn, Alexandra Hooton, Sergeant Patricia and Specialist Ryan Lloyd and Victoria Hooton, grandchildren Libby, Courtney, Chloe Belle, Chase, Connor, Frankie and Scarlett, and sisters Carolyn Wallace and Mary Paciera. Our days will feel empty without his joyful stories about his friends, family and wonderful experiences. We will miss his slow southern drawl, unyielding optimism and unrelenting love of life, friends and family. To you Dad, we raise our rum and cokes one last time as we sing "Old Danny Boy" wearing shades of crimson. Private military funeral for friends and family will be held at the Fort Sam National Cemetery at 10:30 am, Friday, May 24, 2013. Memorial Funeral Home, 210-226-4071.
