Donald Ray Benson of San Antonio, age 77. On Sunday June 3, 2012, Our Lord, Jesus Christ, gathered him in his arms and took him home. His final days were spent surrounded by family and friends. Proceeded in death by his parents Ed Emize Benson and Elizabeth Esther Hodge, step father Erwin Graham, brothers Carl and James and sisters Nadine and Thelma. Don was born February 2 1935 in Cleveland, Oklahoma joined the U.S. Air Force and while station in Laredo meet his wife Dolores Elva Leal. He served for twenty-one years while raising a family in San Antonio. After the Air Force he then worked for UTSA as their lead carpenter until his retirement. He was an avid golfer in his retirement. He was a member of the Foresters (IOF) were he volunteered and raised money for Children's Miracle Network Hospitals and National multiple sclerosis society and other different social events. He enjoyed bowling, playing cards and dominos. He was a handyman and always did his own repairs around the home. He was a loving father to his children and loving husband. He is survived by his wife Dolores Benson of fifty-one years, his son David Richard of Austin, his son Daniel Ray and wife Kim of San Marcos, his son Donald Ray Jr. and wife Andrea of Corpus Christi; grandchildren, David Michael, Jaymes Thomas and his wife Cindy, Jessica Taylor and Ira Jack Benson; great-grandchild Dominic Jaymes Benson; several nieces and nephews. Most famous words "Measure twice, cut once". You will be missed, we love you. A special thanks to the doctors and nurses of Brooks Army Medical Center. Services will be at Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery.
