He participated in numerous mission efforts, including trips to Africa, Mexico and the Dominican Republic. He was a Sunday-morning fixture on the right-hand side of the sanctuary, 5th pew from the front. He knew all the hymns by heart, but sang them out of tune.
Mr. DeWees enjoyed memberships in the Golden Roo Society, San Antonio Country Club, San Antonio German Club, and Los Alegradores. He was a founding member of the Bachelor's Club of San Antonio and the Christmas Cotillion, served as president of both Conopus Club and the Monday Morning Quarterback Club, and on the Board of Directors for KLRN. In his senior years, he was extremely active in the Crimefighter's Club, which met weekly at the Petroleum Club to handle all sorts of important and sensitive matters.
