Edward Schwing Obituary
Lt. Col. (Ret.) Edward L. Schwing

December 21, 1929 -
March 16, 2014

A son, given by the Lord to Dora and Gus Schwing, was born in National City, California, on December 21, 1929, and passed away surrounded by family members on Sunday, March 16, 2014 in San Antonio, Texas. The span of his life was 84 years. The family rejoices knowing that he is forever at home with his Savior, Christ Jesus, who he so faithfully served.

On January 4, 1952, Ed married the love of his life, Lanzel (Lee) Manfull. They recently celebrated 62 years of marriage. Surviving along with his wife, Lee Schwing, are one daughter and son-in-law, Cheryl and Curt Gembler of Boerne, Texas, and two sons and daughters-in-law: Larry and Cindy Schwing of Corpus Christi, Texas, and Mark and Dolores Schwing of San Antonio, Texas. He is also survived by 7 grandchildren: Jonathan Schwing, Matthew Gembler, Joshua Schwing, Bryan Gembler, Jeremy Schwing, Jordan Schwing and Caroline Schwing, along with 2 great-grandchildren, Noah and Willow Schwing.

Ed served proudly for over 20 years in the U.S. Air Force and was a Veteran of the Vietnam War. He won numerous awards and accommodations while "working through the ranks." He was also a Freemason. Ed retired with New York Life insurance company, serving as a CLU and a lifetime member of the Million Dollar Round Table. During his retirement, he enjoyed growing orchids and won several American Orchid Society awards with his "Luv-Lee" Orchids and was a member of the Hill Country Orchid Society. Ed also enjoyed his time and fellowship with the PMOC at Randolph Chapel One. Other hobbies included photography, antique cars, cooking and landscaping, which he passionately pursued alongside his wife whom he adored, Lee "Shorty" Schwing.

In lieu of flowers, Edward L. Schwing's wish was that donations be made to the Scottish Rite Hospital for Children, 2222 Welborn Street, Dallas, Texas 75219, (214) 559-5000. You are invited to sign the electronic guestbook at www.schertzfuneralhome.com.
