HERNANDEZ
Eloy V Hernandez went to be with our Lord on October 20, 2013 at the age of 87. Eloy was born on July 15, 1926 to Arturo and Elisa Hernandez, in San Antonio, Texas. Eloy served in the United States Army and was a veteran of World War II. He was manager of Margos Vogue for over 40 years, and then went to work for 50 Off Stores until retiring. Eloy was very active in civic and social activities. He was president of the Northside CYO for 23 years. He was a member of St. Matthew Catholic Church VIP's and president of the Senior Center for many years. Eloy was also in the Knights of Columbus at St. Matthew. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 46 years, Mary Elizabeth (Betty) Cortines. He is loved and will be greatly remembered by his children; Michael A Hernandez, Carol Ann Smith and husband Hal, and Elizabeth (Betty) Jean Foegelle and husband Joey; his six grandchildren, Tené, Corinne, Brad, Brian, Chad, and Cassandra; and five great grand children, Kaylan, Damian, Daniel, Draven and Taylor. Eloy was one of 13 children, and is also survived by his brothers, Gilbert and Larry Hernandez, and sisters Purita Gonzalez and Mary Lou Vasquez, and numerous nieces and nephews. The family would like to give thanks and appreciation for the support and care given to their Dad by his caregivers, John Pummell and Jesse Casarez, as well as the staff at Heights on Huebner. The family would also like to give a special thank you to Laura Martinez and her staff at the Seraphim Verbena for the care and compassion given their Dad during his final days.
Services
Visitation will be held from 6:00 PM to 9:00 PM with a rosary to be recited at 7:00 PM on October 23, 2013 at Mission Park Funeral Chapels North. Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Thursday, October 24, 2013 at 10:00 AM at St. Matthew Catholic Church; 10703 Wurzbach Rd.. Interment to follow at Holy Cross Cemetery.
