Francis Massey Obituary
Francis Dale Massey passed away on July 30, 2013 in San Antonio, TX. He was born on September 8, 1925 in Ingram, TX to Ben and Norma Lackey Massey. Dale grew up and attended school in Ingram, TX. He enlisted in the Army at Ft. Sam Houston on Dec 21, 1943. He was sent to Aberdeen Proving Grounds, MD. He served in the Pacific Theater for two years, having been stationed at Scoffield Barracks, HI for a brief time. He was there long enough to get a heart shaped tattoo on his shoulder. He re-enlisted to fight in the Korean Conflict in the Occupation Army, and often said that Korea was the coldest place he had ever been. Following his honorable discharge on March 31, 1946, he met and married Ethellin Elsworth of the Boerne, TX area. They were married for 41 years, until her death in 1990. Dale enjoyed fishing for bass and catfish in the rivers and creeks around the hill country. He also enjoyed hunting deer and turkey. Dale was known to shoot two turkeys with one shot and did so several times in his younger days. His greatest joy was being with his family. He was proud of his children and grandchildren. Dale retired from the San Antonio Independent School District in 1988, where he was responsible for the painting and decorating of all the schools in the district. He was a life member of the Painters and Allied Trades Council #88. Dale is survived by his daughter, Nora Jean Schmidt (Richard); sons, Donald (Carol), Franklin (Ginger). He is also survived by a sister, Maureen Muth (Jack); grandchildren, soon to be great grandson; nieces, nephews and cousins.
