CSM Gerald Bruce Calhoun, US Army (ret.) passed away on Sunday, February 2, 2014 in San Antonio, Texas at the age of 84. He was born on January 2, 1930 in Asheville, North Carolina. He was a patriot who served his country honorably, initially by joining the Navy, followed by 30 years in the U.S. Army. He served in many posts around the world including Fort Sam Houston, where he met and married Belia Barrera in 1955, followed by assignments in Iran, France, Vietnam, three tours in Korea, as well as many other assignments stateside. Upon retirement from active duty in 1980 he attended the University of Texas at San Antonio and achieved his Bachelor of Business Administration in 1984. Gerald then spent the next 20 years in his second career as a real estate broker. He was very involved with the Optimist Club, helping under-privileged youth; his friends; and, most especially his family. The accomplishments in his life of which he was most proud were serving his country, and his family. Gerald is survived by his wife of 58 years, Belia Calhoun; daughter, Carrie Kuhn; daughter, Charlotte Walker and her husband, Randy; daughter, Claudette Lee and her husband, Greg; son, Edward Calhoun and his wife, Melinda; daughter, Geraldine Turner; grandchildren, Justin Kuhn and his wife, Tamie, Amanda Kuhn Gomez, Cameron Walker, Ryan Lee, Courtney Lee, Connor Lee, Colton Calhoun, Austin Calhoun and, Trey Turner; and great-grandchildren, Abigail, Bradlee, Marlee, Desiree and Emmitt. The family will receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Monday, February 10, 2014 at Porter Loring Mortuary North.
