AUTH
Harry L. Auth, beloved husband, father and grandfather passed away in San Antonio, Texas on Monday, December 31, 2012 at the age of 89. He was born in 1923 in Louisville, Kentucky.

Harry had a smile, a joke and a song for everyone he met. At his last place of residence, The Forum Alzheimer's Center, he often led the residents and staff in a song and dance.

A child of the Great Depression he began his life under difficult circumstances. Just out of high school he was hired as an aircraft mechanic at Randolph Air Force Base where his work went to support the war effort. As World War II progressed he enlisted in the Navy where he was put to work, once again, as an aircraft mechanic. After the war he returned to Randolph where he had "bumping rights" and became one of the youngest foremen in the civil service. He loved to tell stories of his days at Randolph and his time in the Navy.

He met his wife to be, Ruth in San Antonio in 1946. They married in 1948 and a short time later, while still working at Randolph, he became a part time State Farm agent. They worked together from home with Ruth serving as staff during the day while Harry was at work. In the early 1960's he went into agency full time in a career that spanned four decades. His success in sales allowed them to travel the world with destinations of Europe, Alaska, Hawaii, the Mediterranean and Caribbean. As empty nester's they took up square dancing and made many friends along the way.

He never forgot his humble beginnings and served willingly as a 32nd degree Mason, a Rotarian, and was an active member of Coker Methodist Church and The Quester's Sunday School Class for over forty years. After he retired he volunteered for the next fifteen years as a Blue Bird at the Methodist Hospital.

He loved his wife, son and grandchildren. He greeted each day with a big smile and a "Good Morning!" for everyone he met. He taught us by his example to be happy with what you have, to see the good in everyone, to love God and to love your neighbor.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Leo and Gertrude Auth. Harry is survived by his wife, Ruth M. Auth; son, David L. Auth and wife, Vicki; grandchildren: Austin H. Auth and Allison L. Auth, all of San Antonio, TX; sister-in-laws: Mozelle Boultinghouse of Cherokee, TX; Leta Dinwiddie of Llano, TX and Becky Birdwell and husband, Arthur of Clifton, TX.

The family would like to give thanks to the staff of the Forum Memory Care Unit for their three years of kind, patient and loving care.
