Henry Palmer Hall died peacefully at home on Feb. 9, 2013. He was born to Eunice Horn Hall and Jack Hall on Oct. 1, 1942 in Beaumont, Texas. He is survived by his wife Susan, his son Stephen, and a large and loving extended family. Palmer was preceded in death by his parents, his sister Marian Hall Springer, and his brother James Hall. Palmer graduated from French High School and Lamar University in Beaumont. After serving as a Vietnamese linguist in the U.S. Army, he earned a masters degree in Library Science and a doctorate in English from the University of Texas at Austin. He spent his professional life at St. Mary's University which recognized him with the Art of Peace award in 2008 and the Marianist Heritage Award in 2013. He served the university as the director of the Blume Academic Library, a professor of English, and the editor of the Pecan Grove Press. A gifted writer, he published several volumes of poetry and essays and was inducted into the Texas Institute of Letters in 2005. Palmer was a loving family man, a talented academic and an avid golfer. The family will receive friends from 4:00 P.M. to 6:00 P.M. Monday, February 11, 2013, at Assumption Chapel on St. Mary's University campus.
