Henry Sachers Obituary
Colonel Henry Steele Sachers, a decorated veteran of the Korean and Vietnam wars, will be laid to rest at 11:30 am on Friday January 17th at the Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery.

Born a triplet in Richmond, Virginia on January 16th, 1926 to Eric Gustav Sachers of Yonkers, New York and Wilhelmina Walker Sachers of Lynchburg, Virginia, Col. Sachers attended Peekskill Military Academy and graduated from the United States Military Academy at West Point in 1950. He served in Korea with the 82nd Airborne Division as a member of the 187th Airborne Regimental Combat Team where he was awarded the Silver Star medal and Bronze Star medal for heroism in battle.
He served as Aid-de-Camp to President Dwight Eisenhower and at West Point. He attended the United States Army Infantry School, completing Ranger training. He studied at the Indian Staff College, as well as serving in the United States Army in Europe, stationed in Germany. He attended the Defense Language School in Monterey, CA, attaining fluency in Thai, before serving as Division Senior Advisor in Quang Ngai, Viet Nam.
He served as Commander of Fort Pickett in Virginia for two tours, separated by service with the Military Assistance Advisory Group in Thailand.
Following his separation from the military, Col. Sachers taught at the Chulachomklam Royal Military Academy in Thailand. In addition to his service in the armed forces, Col. Sachers received a MBA from Virginia Tech University. He relocated to San Antonio, where he remained an active and energetic member of his local community.
Col. Sachers was preceded in death by his sister, Ruth Sachers Ballou married to Judge Earnest Ballou of Roanoke Virginia; and is survived by his brother, Reverend Calvin S. Sachers married to Frances P. Sachers of Boerne, Texas. He is also survived by the following nieces, nephews and great nieces and great nephews;E. Wade Ballou, Jr. married to Teri Lynn Ballou. Children: Daniel Wade Ballou and Peter Edwin Ballou. Katherine Ballou Clemmons married to Michael Clemmons. Children: Walker Clemmons and William Clemmons. Eric E. Ballou married to Spencer P. Ballou. Children: Elizabeth P. Ballou, Clara S. Ballou and S. Hobson Ballou. Robert S. Ballou married to Beth S. Ballou. Children: Jack H. Ballou, Cole S. Ballou and Amelia K. Ballou. C. Stewart Sachers Jr. Walker Sachers Taylor married to David Taylor. Children: Emerson E. Taylor and Calvin R. Taylor.
