Irene Cecilia Flores Flores born on the 8th of October 1923 in San Antonio, Texas, died on the 21st of March 2014 at the age of 90. She was preceded in death by her parents Rafaela Menchaca Flores and Diego Flores, Sister Minerva Garza, and son-in-law Chris Medina. She is survived by her husband of 65 years Peter James Flores; children, Iris Ann Flores Hargis Peak (Dan) and Carol Elizabeth Flores Medina; grandchildren, Gregory and Amanda Hargis, Javier and Rene Medina, and Andrea (Ya-Ya) Medina Castaneda (Tony); great grandchildren, Tristan Star, Layla, and Callie Castaneda and Isaac Vigil, and numerous nieces and nephews, especially Sandra Garza and Irene Gonzales. Irene was a descendent of the Canary Islanders (Padron and De Armas families) and whose Spanish roots are traced in the book With the Makers of San Antonio. Irene was also a descendent of the Spanish Conquistadores coming into present day New Mexico in the 16th century whose great grandfather served as an Alcalde of Albuquerque. Irene worked at Kelly, Supply and Transportation during WWII and the Korean War. Private family services will be held this week and her final resting will be at Fort Sam Houston.
