JACOB HERNANDEZ

Jacob Hernandez, age 60 of Hondo Texas, was received into Heaven by his Lord and Savior on Wednesday, January 22, 2014. Jacob was born on May 10, 1953 in San Antonio Texas and spent most of his life in the south Texas area. Jacob was a proud Veteran of the United States Air Force and was retired from AT&T. As a loving and devoted family man he enjoyed organizing and cooking for holidays and other family gatherings. He was an avid dancer, gardener, music lover, do-it-yourself handy man, stereo and audiophile, occasional antique purveyor, Texas sports fan and self-proclaimed wine aficionado. Anyone who knew him knows how giving and selfless he could be. He was passionate and emotional about the things he believed and held to be true and how intensely he would debate them. His pride in his children was evident as he never grew tired of talking about them. His crowning achievement in life was being the "Best Grandpa in the World". With a presence that was grand, his laughter was distinct and would fill a room. He was preceded in death by his father, Adolfo G. Hernandez; mother, Beatrice Hernandez; father-in-law, Felix N. Alarcon; brothers, Eloy M. and Edward M. Hernandez; sister, Sylvia A. Sharon and nephew Michael A Hernandez II. Jacob is survived by a family that will sorely miss his love and ever growing wisdom in their life including his loving wife of 24 years, Maria A. Hernandez; daughter, Yvette Escamillia-Barrientes and husband Ernie; son, SFC Jeremy R. Hernandez and wife Michelle; daughter, Elexa D. Hernandez Martinez and husband Julio; daughter, Novarie A. Hernandez; brothers, Robert M. Hernandez and wife Ruth, Adolph R. Hernandez III and wife Diana, Michael A. Hernandez and wife Sandra, Patrick J. Hernandez and wife Ada; and Gilbert M. Hernandez; sisters, Rose M. Stone and husband Enloe, Gloria M. Aguirre, Rosalie M. Hernandez de Birch, Lynda D. Castillo and husband Albert, and Patricia A. Lipsett and husband Robert; grandchildren, CJ Barrientes, Anthony T. Bryant, Alyssa B. Bryant, Darrick A. Hernandez, Candace Martinez, Bryce D. Hernandez, JJ Barrientes, Jade V. Barrientes, Samira J. Nature's first green is gold
Her hardest hue to hold.
Her early leaf's a flower;
But only so an hour.
Then leaf subsides to leaf.
So Eden sank to grief,
So dawn goes down to day.
Nothing gold can stay.
